Finding Your Calling In Music & Art
Words cannot describe how I felt after witnessing one of America’s greatest. But allow me to try. The concert was rainy and wet, mind-blowingly epic, visually outstanding, and musically a ‘standing ovation’ is probably the best way to describe my experience.
But after the concert ended, I had an incredible revelation.
On the drive home, I had a discussion with my friend and colleague about my plans to relocate to the United States.
After much discussion, I quickly found out that my true desire to find a vocation that I enjoyed and would do for free and for the rest of my life is. And that is music.
In fact, I’ve had so many callings from myself/God/universe/(OR whatever we call it) relating to music.
But you might be thinking, how do you know if you have a calling in music? And how do you know if music can be ‘a thing’ for you?
For starters, the pure thought of music - any music - makes your endorphins light up and you’re so happy. If you feel alive by music, if you feel energized by it, and that it’s a passion, then it’s your calling. This is how I truly feel. The hairs on my body stand up, my brain and lips tingle.
It all boils down to figuring out what particular aspect of music resonates with the authentic me.
Thankfully, for the past 1.5 years, since around July 2022, I started my journey in songwriting and writing rap lyrics (also known as rap bars). I wrote rap bars based on whatever was on my mind, what I’ve been observing in my environment, and wrote bars to beats and produced them to create my songs using Soundtrap (Spotify’s music production platform).
As we approach the end of 2023, I never thought to actually prioritiZe it over my side business, Ditox, a digital wellbeing company that I wanted to revive this year.
But this epiphany made me realize that I am An Artist. And an artist with a legacy never dies. So my dying passion for creating a new life with music is just starting.
As the end of 2023 approaches, let’s bring on 2024 - so watch this space. LET’s GO!
